a common preoccupation within our practice is to examine alternatives to the traditional model of the single family residence. the following is a proposal that looks at sampling as a technique to generate networked connections within a typical suburban block. while architecture is rooted in art, we believe that it is also product and as such needs to adopt alternative production methods in order to compete with single family development. we beleive it is a not an issue of scale but an issue of redistribution. we propose a remix.

bittonidesignstudio gets published…sorta.

February 27th, 2009

so if you happen to be passing your local news stand and notice a really handsome cover on the march issue of Los Angeles Magazine, look no further. the evans house enters the spotlight! as some of you might know the evans house was a renovation to a 1957 benton + park modernist home in the crestwood hills area here in LA. sadly there is no credit given to us or the photographer who took the amazing picture. either way, in our minds, we know we’re famous.

white house redux.

February 20th, 2009

on a routine clean up of our hard drive we came across an old proposal for the white house redux competition. the competition simply asked to reimagine the white house if it were built today. is it obsolete? does it take on a new identity? is it still relevent? these are the things we asked ourselves. sadly we didnt win, but it was exhibited at the NYC Storefront for Art & Architecture. its fairly simple and direct. thanks to jeffrey chinn who put it all together.
